About the Item

A rare Bretby Art Nouveau high fired ‘flambe’ glazed art pottery vase by Henry Tooth & Co and dating from 1900-1910. This exquisite simple shaped bulbous vase stands on a narrow round foot and is of tall shape widening with a narrowing shoulder and small raised round opening. The vase is decorated in a ‘leopard skin’ design in tones of flambe red and green and apparently was inspired by 17/18th century Chinese ‘peach bloom’ glazes and also believe inspiration also came from some of the Ruskin designs at the time. Certainly an unusual example for Bretby and the vase has various impressed marks partially obscured by the glazes run down over the footrim and the vase is numbered 22176. A stunning and decorative example. In good condition with customary age wear to the base.
