Hand Built Ceramic Sculpture, a Skeletal Vertebral Form Glazed in Turquoise

$925Asking Price

About

This unique turquoise hand built sculpture is made of stoneware clay and has a dreamy layered turquoise glaze for added depth of color and tone. In fact, the glaze reveals tones from the buff colored clay. Since it is fully hand formed and glaze fired, it is a unique piece, no 2 can ever be the same. This piece is part of a series of studies investigating the spine (rachis is spine in Latin.) This piece is titled Turquoise Walking Rachis.

About the Maker

Helena Starcevic Ceramics

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
