About the Item

A set of two hand painted Italian majolica jars made by master ceramicist Aldo Fumanti for Fiori, for their Frutta Mista Collection. Biscotti jar measures 12.75"W x 7.75"D x 8.5"H, Cioccolatini jar measures 8.75"W x 5"D x 5.25"H. Each piece is completely handmade and hand painted. The artisans use a technique that dates back to the 13th century which involves firing and dipping the earthenware in a tin oxide glaze before painting the design. Many of the pieces depict traditional themes such as geometric designs, the Italian countryside, mythological figures and fruits and flowers. Each piece is a unique work of art with a history as a functional piece. Fiori is considered an art gallery. Part of it includes the work of Italian master majolica painters whose pieces are already in private collections and museums around the world. Gubbio is a beautiful medieval Italian city, in the north of Umbria. The encounter between Aldo Fumanti and ceramics dates back to the 1960s, when he entered a ceramics workshop in Gubbio as an apprentice at a very young age. After the first works with clay, he immediately understood that this was his business, and that it would give him the opportunity to express all his creativity and imagination. Passion and good times thus led Aldo, in 1971, still young, to found what over time and over the years has become one of the best medium/small businesses in Gubbio: Ceramiche Aldo Fumanti.
