About the Item
A stylish stoneware studio pottery lidded container with brushed designs by renowned studio potter Janet Leach (British, 1918-1997) dating from around 1965. The container is of squat wide cylindrical shape and heavily hand potted standing on a flat round base. The cover with a small lip sits neatly in the top recess and the container has brushed tenmoku designs applied to the cover and base with tenmoku glazes to the inside and inner cover. The outer body unglazed. The container was made at the Leach Pottery in St Ives and bears impressed pottery and personal marks to the lower edge.
Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market.
In good overall condition with customary minor natural firing defects.
