A Large George Jones Majolica Cheese Bell with Daisys, Bees and Fence, ca. 1878

A Large George Jones Majolica Cheese Bell and Stand, rendered as a beautiful summer's day, the domed lid and stand with a rustic fence and relief-molded daisies, wheat sheaves, and green-glazed leaves against a turquoise blue sky with bees, the branch-form handle with naturalistically molded and glazed blackberries and blossoms, the interior glazed in pink/lavender, the reverse glazed in tortoiseshell mottling with impressed factory date code 9D for September 1878.     Wear consistent with age and use. The stand has faint surface hairlines, two extending to the back. They are stable. The cover has one approximately .13-inch chip, which has been colored in. Overall in very good condition with no restoration. Crisply-molded.
