Large Goldscheider Vienna Art Déco Figure 'The Captured Bird', by Lorenzl c.1925
About the Item
One of the most popular and elegant models produced by Goldscheider Manufaktur Vienna:
Depiction of the dancer Niddy Impekoven (1904-2002) performing her dance ‘The Captured Bird’ in the early twenties of the 20th century: The dancer balancing on her toes with her arms raised forwards and backwards, performing a step to the right, wearing a short, translucent dark grey dance dress with black-white and grey patterned batwing sleeves reminiscent of butterfly wings, on her head a tight-fitting dark grey headdress almost completely concealing her hair with painted antennae in white. On a black, gently stepped oval base with a vase placed to the side of the
figure serving as a support.
Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), was an Austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for Friedrich Goldscheider and Keramos and was one of the most popular artists of Art Deco.
