Michael Cardew Wenford Bridge Large Combed Pattern Studio Pottery Dish
About the Item
A large and impressive studio pottery stoneware dish decorated with a combed design by Michael Cardew (British, 1901-1983) and made at Wenford Bridge around 1975. The dish is quite lightly potted and is of wide round shape with a recessed central well with a wide raised edge. The centre of the dish has a combed river like pattern and set within simple linear combed borders with a further combed design applied around the edge of the dish. Decorated in brown glazes with contrasting patterning the dish has impressed seal marks for Wenford Bridge pottery and for Michael Cardew.
Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market.
The dish presents very well however has a two part rim break which has been almost invisibly reattached and has been priced accordingly.
