Mid-Century Modern Studio Ceramic Stoneware Pot by Mark Zamantakis

About the Item

Handsome Mid-Century Modern stoneware pot by artist Mark Zamantakis from his Colorado ceramic studio. It is in wonderful vintage condition. No cracks or crazing. There are a couple tiny chips on the inside rim that you must feel to find. Please see photos, circa 1960s. This is a beautiful example of mid-century modern studio ceramic stoneware by Mark Zamantakis. It has a gorgeous glaze and a somewhat Asian feel which is not surprising since one of Zamantakis places of study was Kyoto, Japan and the Mingei, Korean, and Chinese aesthetics are an important theme in his work. Mark was born in Utah in 1926 and received his BFA in 1950 and MA in 1951 from the University of Denver. He studied under John Billmyer, Charles Raymus and Richard Sorby. He then taught at Cole Junior High and George Washington High School from 1960-1985 as well as Northern Colorado, Colorado Women’s College, and the Jewish Community Center. His work is in the permanent collections of The Vance Kirkland Museum and Denver Art Museum. Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
