Large Blue and White Chinoiserie Dish Delft, circa 1670 Chinese Figures
By Delft
Located in ROSSUM, GE
The blue and white dish has a wide-spreading flange and is painted in the centre with two Chinese figures on a terrace by a pavilion in an oriental garden landscape. A third Chinese is visible in the background. The scene is framed in an octagon. The well and flange are divided into four wide and four narrow panels. The wide panels also feature oriental garden landscapes with one or two Chinese figures. The smaller panels are decorated with a stylised double flower. The outer rim is blue.
The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has a similar, somewhat smaller dish . Several dishes with oriental landscapes and similar panelled borders can be found in a German private collection (Hebben & Peters, pp. 76-77), but instead of stylised flowers in the border, a floral scroll is applied here.
The decoration is inspired by Chinese porcelain from the transitional period at the end of the Ming and the start of the Qing dynasty. The porcelain of the last Ming emperor Chongzhen (reigned 1628-1644), the first Qing emperor...

Chinese Imari Porcelain Plate or Bowl Qing Kangxi Mark and period, Ca 1700
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a beautifully hand painted Chinese Export porcelain plate or bowl from the Qing, Kangxi period, 1662-1722, fully marked to the base with the Kangxi period Artemisia Leaf mark within a double blue ring.
The plate is of dinner plate size, finely potted with a carefully cut base rim and a lovely rich glassy, white glaze with a light blue tinge.
The plate is carefully hand painted in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, iron red and gold. The central well is decorated in the Imari style with flowering peonies, asters and other flowers and grasses, with a small insect flying above the flowers, all within two sets of concentric blue circles. The outer rim is richly decorated with flower sprigs and leaves, all within an outer blue circle.
The base of the plate has a recognized and documented hand painted Kangxi symbol of an Artemisia Leaf, within a double blue ring. See Page 168 of "How to Identify Old Chinese Porcelain" by Willoughby Hodgson and published by Forgotten Books. A Kangxi plate...

Italian Maiolica Cup Ferretti Lodi, circa 1770 - 1780
Located in Milano, IT
Maiolica puerperal cup
Antonio Ferretti Manufacture
Lodi, Circa 1770 - 1780
Maiolica polychrome decorated “a piccolo fuoco” (third fire).
It measures: 4.3 x 6.8 x 5.3 in (11 x 17,5 x 13,5 cm)
Weight: 0.78 lb (358 g)
State of conservation: some closed pass-through fêlures on the cup, barely visible on the outside. Some use chips on the edge of the lid, two of which are more marked.
From about the mid-sixteenth century, the puerperal soup tureen or puerperal cup became one of the most popular wedding gifts in central Italy. As an auspicious symbol, it replaced the birth table (“desco da parto”) which, on the occasion of high-ranking marriages, from the thirteenth century, had been painted by famous artists, especially in Tuscany.
In France this same tureen is called "écuelle de mariée", as it is given to spouses as a sign of fertility.
During the eighteenth century this custom spread even outside Italy to all social levels. Depending on availability and rank, it was made of different materials: precious metals, maiolica, porcelain, glass, pewter, etc.
Beginning in the mid-twentieth century, the custom of this symbolic homage gradually disappeared, although famous designers such as Gio Ponti and Giuseppe Gariboldi, even as recently as the 1940s, revisited a model of a small puerperal soup bowl for the Ginori and, also in Italy in 1940, in a national competition for young potters, one of the themes of the test was indeed a modern model of a puerperal cup as an auspicious gift.
This particular cup was also called a "service cup" or "puerperal vase" or "stuffed cup" - the windows were sealed with straw to prevent drafts of air for women in labor.
In the eighteenth century the line of the puerpera cup was simplified, so much so that it took the form of a small tureen with two handles - the typical broth cup...

Rocking Cradle with Child, Delft, 1750-1780
By Delft
Located in ROSSUM, GE
Rocking cradle with child. Delft, 1750-1780
White figure of a child in a rocking cradle with open hood. It sits upright under a blanket and holds the sides of the cradle with both hands.
Dimensions: length 13,5 cm / 5.31 in., width 9 cm / 3.54 in., height 11,5 cm / 4.52 in.
Figures of children in a rocking cradle are generally dated to the second half of the eighteenth century. They may have been inspired by plates, made at the birth of Prince William V in 1748, depicting a child in a cradle. At the time, the rocking cradles with children may also have been initially intended as an expression of support for the House of Orange. Separately, they were perfect gifts for a married couple to wish them a child-rich marriage.
Nice condition, some minor glaze damage, as to be expected with antique delftware.
