These large and fabulous pair of RARE vintage late 1940's to early 1950's Kutani Japan handcrafted and hand painted foo dog lions are very commanding both in stature and execution of meticulous painted detail with 22 carat gold leaf throughout. The persimmon color of a burnt hue porcelain ceramic porcelain male and female matched pair of foo dogs have a mariage decoration. These are a stunning and gorgeous example of Japanese 2oth Century Arts and a lost art form. The foo dogs are ferocious shishi lions with very colorful and detailed Kutano style moriage porcelain with overglazed enamels of paint that are so meticiously and tirelessly done. The foo gods are made and meant to protect your home and surroundings. These were done with great artistry and immaculate precision. The are regal, stately, statuesque and protectant.
The glossy body is red brown textured persimmon color with raised relief patterns of designs in classic Kutani colors of blue, orange, white, yellow and green. The 22 carat gold overlay decorations throughout that adds richness and regality. There is a partial sticker on the bottom that says Wildwood who was the importer. Excellent vintage condition. They are beyond mermerizing with their detail and history . Again in recap, rare and stunning. Unusual and elegant. You will love them.

This remarkable vintage Chinese "good luck" small box has pushed out enamel jumping and leaping frogs and foo dogs in beautiful colors. Greens, light blue, blues, red, pink, yellow, black are amongst the colors setting off an off-white enamel honeycomb patterned background. It is dimensional and textural.
