Wilhelm Kage, "Farsta" blue jar with a lid The Gustavsberg Manufactory, Sweden 1959 Impressed "Farsta" six times to feet, "Gustavsberg G (hand) Studio" Incised "i9", "KÅGE This is a footed jar with a lid by Wilhelm Kåge, a master potter at the Gustavsberg Porcelain manufactory in Sweden. A lidded jar with a starch-blue glaze over the entire body. The jar-shaped body has slightly protruding shoulders and is beveled on six sides. The lid is attached to the mouth, and the original leather handles from the time of production remain. The body has six legs attached to the bottom of the body. The high legs are thought to have been inspired by Chinese bronze vessels, and are an important expressive technique in Kage's works. The height of the high legs is wheel-thrown into a cylindrical form, and later the six legs are carved out to form the six feet, so that even small legs can support the large and heavy body. The base of the potter's wheel is scratched horizontally, and the shoulders and lid are painted in white glaze with a dotted or line pattern. When viewed from above, it is clear that these dotted patterns work well and are placed in exquisite positions with a small rhythm. The starch blue glaze that runs down the body of the bowl runs down to the bottom, causing the glaze to drip. This is inspired by the glaze dripping of tenmoku tea bowls, and in Kage's case, he intentionally uses a lot of glaze dripping. In recent years, I have come to feel that this glaze dripping is "stopping time. It is as if he is projecting a time capsule-like meaning onto his works, stopping the moment of the flow of water and confining it forever. The piece comes with a traditional Japanese ceramic wooden box. The vessel has been examined by an expert by UV light and visual inspection to ensure that there are no repairs and that it is not twice kiln fired.
