About the Item
This is a fine English, hand blown drinking glass, made from lead glass in the 18th century, circa 1785.
Short, heavy, thick stemmed glasses like this with a thick foot are known as firing glasses, as they were used for toasts at people gatherings.
The glass has a good drawn trumpet bowl over a thick, facet cut stem leading to a heavy, wide, conical thick foot, having a snapped off pontil to its underside. The bowl has been beautifully hand engraved with a trailing vine pattern.
Dimensions: Height 4.19, rim diameter 2.38, foot diameter 2.75 inches
Condition: Overall very good condition. No damage.
Please Note that authentic, English hand blown, lead glass often has inclusions and imperfections which is normal to the hand blowing process and makes every glass unique. This glass has a small grit / slag inclusion within the foot and a very short blowing line to the underside, probably from a burst air bubble.

This is a very good hand-blown, English, mid-Georgian, Wine drinking glass with a round funnel (RF) engraved bowl on a solid stem, dating to the middle of the 18th century, circa 1760.
These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour.
The RF (round funnel) bowl is well engraved with OXO under rim and a facet cut bowl base, sitting on a a solid stem, over a conical foot with a snapped off pontil below to the underside.
The foot has an under rim edge chip but is otherwise very good with on evidence of restoration.
(NOTE: We do not normally buy Georgian wine glasses...

This is a very good hand-blown, English, Georgian, wine drinking glass with a facet cut stem, dating from the 18th century, circa 1785.
These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour.
The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm.
The glass has a round funnel bowl which sits on a good facet hand cut stem which extend into the base of the bowl, the stem having a central knop. The stem leads to a conical foot having a snapped off pontil mark to the underside, which has been ground smooth. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration.
