Delft Blue and White Chinoiserie Dish the Netherlands, 1675-1700 Chinoiserie

About the Item

Large blue and white chinoiserie dish. The Netherlands, 1675-1700. The blue and white dish has a wide-spreading flange and is painted in the centre with a sitting Chinese figure in an oriental landscape, within a double circle. The well is left unpainted. The flange is decorated with a continuous band of flowers and foliage. Three stilt marks, which are characteristic for majolica, are visible in the centre. Dimensions: diameter 34.7 cm / 13.7 in. The chinoiserie decor on this dish is related to that on faience plates, dishes and lobed dishes from the second half of the seventeenth century. This type of décor is not often seen on majolica dishes from the last quarter of the century. Condition: This large dish is in very good condition, especially considering its age of over 320 years. There are the usual rim chips.
