About
Two Dutch delft baluster vases with floral decor of roses and leaves.
Place: Delft
Workshop: De Drie Vergulde Astonne or De Paauw
Owner: Pieter Gerritsz. Kam of David Kam
Date: 1700 - 1720
This garniture can be attributed to one of the brothers Kam, who bot ran a workshop in Delft. Pieter Kam and David Kam, Sons of Gerrit Kam, came from a Delftware family who owned multiple factories of many generations in the city of Delft. The monograms GK and PK on objects dating from this period are associated with the ''De Drie Vergulde Astonne'' workshop. The monogram ''De Paauw'' on objects is from the workshop of David Kam. The Kam family developed a style of their own during this period. Much of their work is completely covered with painted sprays of flowers and birds in all sorts of attitudes. As a rule, the effect of the decoration is more satisfactory on a large surface, as in this case on these two vases, than on a smaller object. This style of painting was used in Delft for many years. Executed by painters with a thicker brush, consequently, to produce, millions of vases, jars, tankards, dishes, and plates were made and sold. Needless to say, very few of these pieces have survived the ages.
Apparently unmarked.
Measurements:
Side vases: Diameter: 18cm and 41cm in height.
Centerpiece: Diameter: 24cm and 49cm in height.
It's very rare to find a complete garniture set still together. Mostly one finds only the two side vases and sometimes the middle one. Most sets are split due to inheritance.
