French Faïence Sarreguemines Shell-Shaped Hand Painted Asparagus Plate

About the Item

A French Faïence shell shaped asparagus plate, showing a group of asparagus spears spread across the front, the shaped rims are hand-lined in burgundy and pale green, 19th century. The bottom section is a deeper sauce well. Book reference: “Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine” by Maryse Bottero. Showing the makers mark used between 1875 and 1900, ‘SARREGUEMINES’ in cursive script with a ‘U & C’ overlay, on the verso. Measures: 9 in. W x 10 in. L x 2 in. H Multiples available: Expect light flea-biting to the rims, and craquelure to the lighter glazed areas, as expected in antique faïence. Pictured are possible minor signs of age wear. All plates are considered to be in very good antique condition.
