About the Item
This is a mid-19th century Mason’s patent ironstone Dinner Plate produced at the time when Mason's was owned and controlled by George L Ashworth after the bankruptcy of C J Mason in 1848.
This large plate is decorated in a striking chinoiserie pattern called "Coloured Wall" Pattern in a striking burnt orange / red colourway. The pattern would have been transfer printed then boldly hand enameled with much hand painted gold gilded detail. This pattern is illustrated in Mason's Ironstone pattern book published by the Mason's Collectors Club., page 94.
The base carries a puce transfer printed mark and an impressed Ashworth Real Ironstone China mark, dating this piece to circa 1870.
