Georgian Set of Six Mason's Ironstone Side Plates Scroll Landscape Ptn, Ca 1818

About the Item

This is a very early and decorative set of six matching Mason's Ironstone side plates, all in the Scroll Landscape and Prunus pattern and dating to the earliest period, circa 1813-1820. Sets of very early Mason's plates in this pattern are rare. The plates are decorated in the chinoiserie influenced Scroll Landscape and Prunus pattern, which is one of Mason's rarer Chinese influenced patterns with a very decorative border. The pattern is richly hand painted, over-glaze in brilliant enamels over a printed cobalt blue outline, all in varying shades with each plate being slightly different - please see the images of each plate. The glaze of these plates also has a grey/blue tinge, only seen on the very early pieces. The base of each plate has the impressed "Mason's Patent Ironstone China" straight liner mark, together with the large blue crown, indicating a date of circa 1813-1820, making these plates some of the earliest pieces of Mason's, as Ironstone was only produced by them from 1813, which is late George 111 period. This pattern is fully documented and listed on Page 81 of A guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's collectors' club.
