Rare Ca 1600-1660 Chinese Porcelain Ming Period Kosometsuke Plate Copper Red

About the Item

Small dish Porcelain with underglaze blue and underglaze red decor. Ming dynasty, Tianqi or Chongzhen period (1621-1644) Sharing with you this lovely little dish from the early 17th century. It is unmarked and from Tianqi/Chongzhen period. Jingdezhen made for the Japanese market. It was used for the traditional Kaiseki.⁠ ⁠ This is the meal served in the context of chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony). It precedes the serving of the tea at a formal tea function (chaji). The basic constituents of a cha-kaiseki meal are the ichijū sansai or "one soup, three side dishes", and the rice, plus the following: suimono, hassun, yutō, and kōnomono. ⁠ ⁠ Both blue (nice dark cobalt) en copper red are underglaze. With a fantastic roosters in fight scene.⁠

    This is a dessert plate made by Spode in about 1822, which was the Regency era. The plate is made of Felspar porcelain and decorated with a beautiful hand painted landscape scene.
