About the Item

A rare and richly detailed blue and white earthenware plate by esteemed Swedish porcelain maker Rörstrand, dating to the mid-1800s. Crafted using the classic transferware technique, this plate showcases an exquisite chinoiserie-style pagoda scene, complete with fluttering birds, flowering trees, and an ornate pavilion—all rendered in vibrant cobalt blue. The undulating rim is delicately moulded with a relief foliate motif, adding depth and dimension to the overall form. A fine example of Scandinavian craftsmanship influenced by Orientalism, this piece exemplifies the 19th-century European fascination with Eastern aesthetics. Marked on the reverse with Rörstrand’s crowned crest in underglaze blue, a hallmark of the factory’s production from the 1830s to the 1860s. The glaze shows beautiful age-related crazing, enhancing its antique character. Whether styled on a wall or layered into a decorative table setting, this collectible plate is a timeless blend of artistry and history.
