Set of Ten Nast Porcelain Soup Plates with Imperial Napoleonic Decoration

About the Item

Imperial French Nast Porcelain Soup Plates These ten exquisite soup plates were made, circa 1805, by the celebrated Manufacture de Nast, a Parisian porcelain factory favored by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and officially appointed supplier to the Imperial Household (Maison de l'Empereur). Under Napoleon's direct patronage, Nast produced refined services and presentation wares for court use and diplomatic gifts. The firm's neoclassical style, with its emphasis on clarity, symmetry, and disciplined ornament, perfectly suited the Empire's visual ideals. Each plate features a white ground scattered with individually hand-painted garden flowers and tiny gilt sprigs. No two are exactly alike. The wide borders are richly decorated with neoclassical decoration of intertwined floral garlands in soft pinks, purples, and greens. These are interspersed with stylized gilt medallions framed in purple and gold. Along the outer edge is a gilded lattice motif. The design is lush yet orderly, capturing the technical brilliance and visual elegance for which Nast porcelain was prized. Porcelain by Nast is held in major museum collections, including the Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Dimensions: 9.75" diameter x 1.5" deep Condition: Excellent Price: $3,800 Nast Porcelain: A Legacy of Imperial Patronage Founded by Jean Nast circa 1783, the Manufacture de Nast quickly earned acclaim for the quality of its hard-paste porcelain, which was comparable to that of Sèvres. During the Napoleonic era, the Nast factory rose to prominence with major commissions from the Imperial state and direct support from the Emperor himself.
