Six Mason's Ashworth's Ironstone Large Dinner Plates Chinoiserie, circa 1865

About

These are a beautiful set of six Mason's ironstone large dinner plates made during the mid-19th century, when Mason's was owned by Ashworth Brothers, circa 1865. The plates have a detailed Chinoiserie pattern depicting a pagoda lakeside scene with various buildings and trees with boats on the water and various border designs. The pattern would have been printed onto each plate and then hand painted in various bold colors including cobalt blue and a burnt orange, with additional gilt highlighting. All six plates have a puce printed mark to the reverse; Real Ironstone China, with a Mason's crown above and a hand pattern number, 143 in red below. This mark is a recorded Mason's / Ashworth's mark and is shown on Page 192 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wears, published by The Antique Collectors' club.
