About the Item

Whenever we see a set of fine plates like these, I turn them over, and about 70% of the time they were made for distribution via Ovington Brothers', NYC, one of the finest establishments for luxury goods, heavily leaning toward table settings and fine china, silver, crystal. Contracting through the best makers in Europe, the store was able to bring the finest and most opulent, elegant sets to the Golden Age elite. And while the store fell victim to bad economic times a bit later, through to 1920s, they were, themselves, part of the Golden Age. And here we have a magnificent set of Minton plates, heavily encrusted in 18k gold enamels, and further hand decorated with the raised gold enamel we love so much. This type of plate is still produced, and I check the Bon Marche in Paris often to see just how much they're selling for today. They range from 500 - 2500 euro per plate, depending on how elaborate they are decorated. These fine raised gold plates never stay in our inventory long. This set has just 11, rather than the usual 12, but the solution is to buy the plates, and invite one friend who's recently divorced. (smile) A table for 10, and a spare just in case. Very good to excellent condition. These appear to have never been used. All in fine order without any chips, nips, hairlines, cracks. Probably used as cabinet plates, or stored away. I don't even see any evidence of utensil use. Surely they must have something to show for their age other than the loss of the 12th plate.
