Glass drinking Tankard Hand Blown with Pewter Horse Head Hinged Lid, 19th C
About the Item
This is a good quality hand blown glass tankard with a hinged cover or lid having a pewter horse head thumb piece, crafted in the mid-19th Century.
The tankard has a cylindrical slightly tapered body which is made of hand blown glass with a good glass loop handle. The glass has a lovely light mauve ( light pinky-lilac) tinged colour to it which is most unusual and a very decorative feature. The tankard is fitted with a hinged lid or cover with a metal surround fitted with a clear bevel glass top.
The cover is operated by a hinged spur thumb rest with the top shaped as a horses head. We think the metal is pewter.
The glass base of the tankard has many small wear scratches to its outer rim from many years of use, indicative of a mid-19th century date.
A very decorative piece for the bar and or the person with an interest in horses.
