Antique 18th Century Pewter Lidded Continental Glass Beer Stein, Dated 1796

A fine antique 18th century pewter & glass beer stein. In the form of a glass stein mounted with a pewter lid and pewter foot rim. Monogrammed to the lid for "I.N." with an engraved "1796" below it. Simply a great piece of antique Continental glass! Date: 1796 or 1798 Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Condition Details: There is some haze/accretions to the bottom of the stein, and minor imperfections throughout the glass. There is some fritting to the handle. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.     This is a very good hand-blown, English, Georgian, wine drinking glass with a facet cut stem, dating from the 18th century, circa 1785. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm. The glass has a round funnel bowl which sits on a good facet hand cut stem which extend into the base of the bowl, the stem having a central knop. The stem leads to a conical foot having a snapped off pontil mark to the underside, which has been ground smooth. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration.
