About the Item

This antique Bohemian jug, crafted in opaline overlay cranberry glass and dating to the mid-19th century, is a stunning example of Bohemian glass artistry from the period. The jug is made of two-layer glass, with a rich cranberry glass base overlaid by a milky white opaline layer, creating a beautiful contrast between the vibrant cranberry hue and the soft white overlay. The circular body is decorated with intricate overlay patterns on both the top and bottom, where the two layers of glass meet in a visually striking design. Gilded borders further accentuate the overlay. The milky white opaline layer is hand-painted with exquisite natural scenes, depicting birds and colorful flowers. Gilding highlights are also present throughout the body, with a gilded wavy rim. Made in Bohemia circa 1860, this jug exemplifies the high-quality craftsmanship and artistic innovation of mid-19th century Bohemian glassworks.
