Baccarat Aesthetic movement intaglio cut glass vase c 1880
About the Item
Fabulous, intaglio carved, Baccarat vase in the Aesthetic style dating around 1880. Depicting two classically dressed women arranging fruit and plants on a pedestal with a landscape background with a large finely detailed tree. As usual with such Baccarat pieces the cutting is of exceptional quality. Intaglio cutting is notoriously hard to photograph so I have shown it on both white and black backgrounds and with bright sunlight. The vase blank is one of the Chinoiserie series introduced by Baccarat in the late 1870 featuring a number of classical Chinese shapes and forms.
Baccarat still exists today and has been the creator of the finest crystal for hundreds of years. The last quarter of the 19th century was probably their greatest period.
