Haida Fine Cut Green Over Clear 1000 Eye Glass Vase c1930

About the Item

Fabulous crystal green, cut to clear, 1000 eye vase from the Haida region of Czechoslovakia -possibly by either Carl Metzler or Carl Hosch. 1000 eye vases are so called because as you look into each of the dozens of cut 'eye' apertures you can see dozens more eyes inside. This vase is particularly unusual as it is green cut to clear (they are most usually red) and it has vertical cut stripes and well as eyes -giving it a particularly impressive overall look. The blanks for these vases were usually made in the big glass houses such as Harrach and Riedel and then finely hand cut and finished in small workshops around the Haida region. Haida had one of the only glass schools where such techniques were taught -and students tended to stay close after graduation -as they then had access to blanks and other important materials and equipment
