Rene Lalique 'Barbillon' paperweight signed c1930 -original green staining

About the Item

Classic and rare Rene Lalique 'Barbillon' fish paperweight in original dark green staining. The paperweight shows a stylised Art Deco ugly beautiful fish -with prominent scales and small bug eyes standing on a small rectangular block base -this is one of the rarest paperweights and definitely the only example we have ever seen with original staining. The signature is easy to see on the side of the base block -see first picture and others. The fish paperweight is listed in Marcilhac Page 388 (black edition) No1176 René Lalique was possibly the most famous of all glass makers -the most collectable pieces by him are those produced during his lifetime (ie pre 1945), these are signed, like this piece, R Lalique.

This is a Documented Carres Perles pattern 'Cloison' or wall panel. The fact that it is an unused single panel and signed (they were usually not signed) suggests this was a salesman's sample.
