About the Item

A stunning quality antique Bohemian ruby flash glass goblet after Carl Günther decorated with hunting and various other scenes and dating from around 1870. The hand-blown goblet is made in clear glass and applied with a ruby flashing and stands on a wide solid round foot thickly made with a snapped pontil mark to the centre of a flat polished base. A thick solid glass stem supports a goblet shaped bowl resting on a small, ring-shaped top. The bell-shaped bowl is of tall round shape with the foot, stem and lower and upper body applied with ruby flashing applied with yellow low raised enamel patterning. The remaining body of the bowl finished in clear glass is applied with various hunting and other scenes finely applied in ruby flashing. The scenes include various landscapes and figures including a hunter on horseback; a hunter with horn and dog; a seated figure playing a flute, various hunting dogs, deer, birds and buildings all set within landscapes. The glass has an old paper label in German reading “Radierungen n. C. Günther anfang d. 19 Jahrhunderts”. A stunning and good quality example. Provenance: acquired in the UK Art Market. Offered in good presentable condition with natural age wear to the base of the foot with a couple of very minor scratches to the ruby flashing to the top edge. These certainly do not detract.
