About the Item

Shapes are typically curving and organic, echoing the ductile, rounded nature of molten glass. Itw as introduced in 1960, with the first designsb being by Vlastimil Svoboda. The range was enlarged in 1964, with new shapes designed by Vladimir Mika, although Svoboda also lays claim to these. These additional shapes were the last to be introduced at the Mstisov glassowrkds before it was closed and production was moved to the Moser glassworks at Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). Ovoid vase forms were produced using the 'wet stick' process, where a wet stick was thrust into the molten body of the piece when it was being formed. The water in the stick would turn to steam and expand the body. It would then be finished. Quality was always high and examples with even and strong colours are now highly sought-after. The range was produced from 19609-64 at Mstisov and then from 1964 to around 1971 at Moser. It was featured in Czechoslovak Glass Review in 1963 and 1965, where it was discussed over four pages with colour illustrations each time. The range was exhibited to great acclaim in the Czech Pavilion at the Expo '70, the world Exposition at Osaka, Japan.
