French Art Nouveau Emile Galle Cameo Glass Four Colour Banjo Vase, circa 1900

About the Item

Classic Art Nouveau four colour Emile Galle 'Banjo' vase, depicting blooms in dark green, purple, opaque white and, internally, pink - signed in cameo (see picture 4 -Provost Mark III -see chart in last picture ). Emile Galle Cameo Banjo vases (so called because they vaguely resemble that shape) are amongst the most collected of Emile Galle shapes with many collectors only buying this form. Four colour Cameos are exceptionally difficult to make and were prohibitively expensive. Soon after this was made using four colours was largely abandoned. Emile Galle was probably the greatest glass maker of all time and one of the founding father's of the Art Nouveau movement.
