About the Item

Fine glass beaker/colorless cut-glass of Biedermeier period, with painted view of theseus temple in Vienna: Picture created by follower of Gottlob Samuel Mohn (1789-1825) / made circa 1830-1840. Specifications: Stunningly manufactured colorless cut-glass beaker with finest enamel painting: Multicolored view of Theseus Temple in Vienna having been built as from year 1819 until 1823 by well-known architect Peter von Nobile (1774-1854): It is a building of Classicism, a smaller copy of a famous Greek Antique Temple, the Temple of Hephaistos in Athens (known under the name 'Theseion', too.) The beaker is of tapering type/it has wide round mouth framed by golden painted border showing arches with leaves. Stunningly carved bottom, further decorated with carved silver-yellow radial pattern having 16 arms. Hallmarked: * 'Mohn fecit' .8. Most probably the painter is a follower of Gottlob Samuel Mohn who was son of Samuel Mohn who had been active as painter of porcelain and glass in Dresden/Germany. The younger Mohn studied at Academy of Dresden and moved in May 1811 to Vienna where he was patronized by Duke Albert von Sachsen-Teschen. Certainly the painter of beaker presented here was a pupil of G.S.Mohn since the painting's style is closely connected to younger Mohn's work. Diameter at foot: 7.0 cm / 2.75 inches. Diameter at mouth: 8.5 cm / 3.34 inches. Condition: Very good (due to age, the golden painting is a bit rubbed at some areas/apart from that, there aren't any damages existing/any restorations of paintings existing!)
