About the Item

Glass vase “Zanfirico” by master glassblower Archimede Seguso – Murano 1970s Glass vase “Zanfirico” creared by the master glassblower Archimede Seguso (1909 – 1999) in 1970 circa. The name of the artwork comes from the so-called “zanfirico a canne incrociate” decoration (which is a variation of the watermark decoration). The overall condition is excellent. Archimede Seguso is certainly among the greatest and most famous protagonists in the history and tradition of glassblowing in Murano – Venice. Born in 1909 he began working at a young age, thus becoming master at 17 in his father’s workshop. He has continued working there for 3 years until 1929, and then he established his own workshop, initially named Soffieria Barovier Seguso & Ferro, and in 1933 renamed Seguso Vetri d’Arte, as known for the following decades. He held several collaborations with artistic director and designer Flavio Poli. In 1933 Archimede Seguso also established the Vetreria Artistica Archimede Seguso workshop, where he had the possibility to further develop and experiment with the ancient glassblowing techniques, and with a wide range of colors; thanks to it, he finally invented the famous decorations « Filigrane » , « Merletti », « Piume » etc. Through the “Sommerso” technique he created glasses characterised by strong chromatic contrasts and juxtapositions. - This object is accompanied by a certificate of free circulation from the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage and can be immediately exported from Italy.
