Marine Scene Painting by Flemish Artist Early xix Century

About the Item

Marine scene painting by Flemish artist early XIX century Created by a Flemish artist in the early XIX century, this sizeable oil-on-canvas artwork portrays a scenic marine landscape. Five merchant vessels are facing a rough stormy sea in proximity to a cliffed coast; the dramatic dynamism of the scene is emphasized by several characters placed on the ships. The attribution to the Flemish artist is supported by the presence of numerous triangular vessel flags, in particular by their descending chromatic order red-white-blue. The overall good condition of the painting can be seen in the pictures, which also display the small signs of restoration made to the rear side.
