Joel Philip Myers (b.1934) is a highly noted American studio glass artist who has worked outside the boundaries of the mainstream studio glass movement. After studying design, he attended the legendary ‘Toledo Workshops’ in 1962 & 3, and began experimenting with glass. He taught himself glassmaking when designing for Blenko from 1963-70. His work is known for its simplicity, expressiveness and individuality. The Smithsonian notes that his sculptures have “personalities of their own.” In 1970 he became a successful independent glass artist and Professor of art at the Illinois State University. His work is in many museums and private collections.
