Loetz Art Nouveau Vase New-Red Cytisus Silver Mount, Austria-Hungary, circa 1902

About the Item

Finest Bohemian Art Nouveau glass vase in the form of a blown, baluster-shaped body with a flared rim. Silver mounting in the form of chased flowers, enclosing the body of the vase like a clasp, and a silver-plated rim. Shape: Production number / pattern not documented Decor: New-red Cytisus Colorless glass, underlaid with new-red opal, wrapped with blue-violet, wavy, veined stripes and silvery spots with a mother-of-pearl luster scattered over the surface. Model-blown and shaped, reduced and iridescent, with a spherical polished pontil. Vases with a Cytisus decor (laburnum) are all representatives of the most creative epoch of the Lötz glassworks. This colorful, effective and interesting rhythmic decor - which is also close to contemporary Viennese painting (e.g. Klimt's Beethoven cycle from 1902) - was used almost exclusively on vessels with lively wavy contours, which are also characterized by dynamic curves in the handles and attachments that reach out into the space. Manufactured by Loetz Widow / Klostermühle / Bohemia Dating of manufacture: around 1902 Size: height: 13,5 cm / 5.31 in diameter: 5,5 cm / 2.16 in Condition: Excellent - Silver marked 'FINE'
