About the Item

Heading : Biomoprhic Beryl Bowl by Vera Liskova Date : c1950 Origin : Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia Bowl Features : Turquoise glass, known as Beryl, with organically curving walls. Type : Lead Size : 12.2cm height, 35.5cm length, 20.5cm width Condition :Excellent, no chips or cracks Restoration : None Weight : 3936 grams This extremely rare large bowl was among the first designs Liskova produced fo rthe world-famous company of Moser, founded in 1857. The sculptural, organically curving walls recall pre-war designs produced during the late 1920s by Heinrich Hussmann, but are more rounded and flowing, recalling the liquid nature of molten glass. The vibrant, tonal green glass used is unique to Moser and is known as 'Beryl.' Introduced by Moser at an exhibition in Hradec Králové in 1925, it heralded the introduction of a series of different brightly coloured glass made using 'rare earths' such as a neodymium and praseodymium. Considered a hallmark colour, it is still used today. Other examples from this range can be found in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and in the Moser museum. Vera Lisková (1925-85) studied at the State School of Graphic Art in Prague from 1940-41, and then at the Academy of Applied Art in Prague from 1942-49. From 1948-49, she trained at Lobmeyr. In 149, she joined Moser and designed there until 1961. She then became and independent designer, producing desings for Moser and other companies. Her work was exhibited at the XI and the XII Triennales in Milan, and at the World Expo in Brussels in 1958. Examples of her designs can be found in many major museums internationally.
