About the Item
Valuable and particular blown Murano glass service; it is composed of 12 water glasses, 12 wine goblets, 12 flute goblets, and a jug with handle; the service was made by a skilled Murano glass master between 1951 and 1953 who was inspired by articles and models produced in the early eighteenth century, many of which are kept at the Glass Museum of Murano; he created all the pieces with the same ancient techniques; for each object, he started by taking the molten glass from the furnace with the long typical glassmakers' cane, then blowing into the cane he gave it the desired shape, then while the object was still hot, he applied on it, by hand, using special pliers, quickly and skilfully, some hot glass threads as decorations modeling them and positioning them as he liked; He then let everything cool down with wise slowness and patience; the long process was done, without interruption, for each piece of the service! The glass used is not leaded, but it is sodic-calcic or silica glass, and it is made up of about 70% silica (silicon dioxide), 15% soda (sodium oxide), and 9% lime (calcium oxide); this composition makes Murano glass, produced by hand in the ancient furnaces, visibly irregular and very light; the presence of an anomaly in the material under the base of the glasses and the jug clearly indicates that the objects have been blown (see photo) and guarantees their authenticity; the Master Glassmaker coldly affixed his signature on all the pieces of the served (see photo); in Murano there were and there are many great famous Masters and many others little known; there is no list that gives us information on each of these great artists; in our case, we can say, not with certainty, but with approximation, that the signature on the pieces of the served could belong to Bon Aldo, called Polo. Bon was born in Murano in 1906 and died there in 1988, he was Master Glassmaker for several important companies including Aureliano Toso from 1939 to 1955, and it seems that he signed his works with the writing "Bon" followed by a number of which we do not know the meaning (see photo). However, whoever is the creator, the realization of this service confirms that the Venetian aptitude, celebrated over the centuries, for the manufacture of glass, is an alchemical combination of the material developed by clever craftsmen with artistic intuition, since ancient times Venetian artisans protect and hand down the art of glass always giving us valuable and unique works of art that fascinate us for their beauty. Measures pitcher diameter cm.14, height cm.23; water glass diameter cm.9, height cm.11; wine glass diameter cm.8, height cm.15; flute glass diameter cm.8, height cm.22. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

View AllYeoward William "Crystal Collection" Pair of English Crystal Goblets
By William Yeoward
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. We have another goblet identical to these that we sell single (posted on 1stdibs).
Iconic and precious crystal goblets; they have been made from the highest quality lead crystal with a thickness that is thick enough to allow them to be ground deeper than normal, which allows the light to reflect in a much brighter and more brilliant manner; for this to happen, the geometry of the grinding has also been specially designed and executed. The glasses are a delightful combination of intricate cuts and engravings and feature some of the most beautiful motifs of the 18th and 19th centuries. Every detail of the decoration, such as the glittering star wheel, is cut entirely by hand, with hours of specialized labor required to complete each piece achieving a very high standard of quality. The glasses were made in London (England) between 1995 and 1996 by the William Yeoward company, whose name they bear on the bottom (see photo), and are one of the most attractive designs in the "William Yeoward Crystal...

Set of 6 French ground crystal liqueur glasses; crystal with a lead content of 30% was used in their execution; the high lead content, replacing calcium, found in ordinary glass, gives the crystal considerable hardness, exceptional transparency and a high refractive index; with the techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, scrupulously performed by hand, extraordinary plays of light and reflections have been created; the shape of the glasses is classic but very refined and elegant, they have simple and delicate grinding, they have also been ground with precise and dense faceting to enhance the diamond refraction of light; were made in the Beaux...
