About the Item

A very fine pair Murano MVM Cappellin amber wine glasses dating from around 1925. The glasses have octagonal bowls with gilded edging mounted on large wrythen knopped stems and spreading circular feet with gilded edging. The glasses are not marked. MVM Cappellin & C. was founded by Giacomo Cappellin in 1925. He had previously worked with Paolo Venini and in 1921 had founded the Cappellin Venini & C. although the partnership was short lived. MVM Cappellin glassworks were based at the Palazzo da Mula in Murano with Vittorio Zecchin joining as artistic director in 1926. He recruited Carlo Scarpa who brought innovation to the designs and production methods. The factory went bankrupt in 1932 and was taken over by Pauly & C. in 1933. Provenance: Acquired from the UK art market. In good condition with light wear associated with age.
