About the Item

These glasses were made during the Meiji period into the Taisho period between 1868 and 1930 however from the wear and finish we believe these to be earlier examples. The hand-blown glasses each stands on a wide round foot with narrow stem with large goblet shaped bowls. Each is of differing design with one in clear glass with an opalescent polka dot design to the body with a red rim with a raised foot with rough pontil mark; the second on a black glass foot polished flat with a rough recessed central pontil supporting a clear glass body with an opalescent chequerboard design and the third with a similar black foot and stem with a yellow opalescent shaded clear glass bowl and rim. None of the glasses are marked and all vary slightly in size. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market. In good condition with a few natural minor defects and age wear to the bases.
