About the Item

Extraordinary historical set of 44 pieces from A.Ve.M Murano. The theme of the set is the dolphin. This is wonderfully executed with attention of details. The tail and fins are in ribbed massiccio glass. All with 24k gold leaf embedded during the making of the element. What caught my attention is the eye, made of two color, yellow and black. It's a small murrina made for the eyes. On the drinking glass elements the dolphin sculpture is on the stem, while on the cups are placed as a handle. In addition the master added a waved clear bead with gold at the bottom of the cup, or below the plates. Commonly called morisa it's an additional element of luxury. The red grass seems made in partita, meaning from the same crucible. Red glass changes from batch to batch so top quality serving sets are made all-together from the same fused glass. This is a wonderful ruby red, particulary expensive as it was made adding gold to the glass sand mixture. Not possibile to achieve nowadays with the limitation on pigments. The blown ruby red glass is in large ribbed relief. Commonly called Ottico because of the lens effect. The main part are the 11 water and wine glass. The set was certainly in origin for 12 and it's a rare find to get 11 of the two chief pieces. the 7 rosolio (shot) glass are perfect as candle holders. The manufacturing is of the early 50s, being a wedding present for a couple in Rome we were able to track the manufacturing time. This would the Ferro family as maker. For all that I know and considering the traditional style I will assume is a creation of Galliano Ferro. This is my attribution. Some pieces still carries the original red label AVEM MADE IN ITALY MURANO. This style is usually part of the Salviati and Pauly collection and you can find some spare pieces carrying the same Murrina eye. The two things doesn't seem to be contradictory as there was a collaboration among these companies with Avem or the Avem individual Artists. This set was made having the highest end production in mind, with the best color, material and techniques. Fits perfectly with today's concept of maximalist style. There isn't in the market anything like this. It's a museum collection. Each piece is a masterpiece and work of art. Note: The listed dimensions are of the tallest stem glass. Only one piece is considered defective. It's one of the bowl where one dolphin is off and the other wobbles. Here the measurement of each piece for better reference in cm and the number of pieces.
