About the Item

18th century Georgian knife box made from mahogany, flame mahogany and satinwood. Satinwood cross-grain inlay borders the top, ornate and intricately done satinwood marquetry inlay of lidded urn contained in an oval on outer slanted lid, inner lid has a 6-pointed star inlay inside of an intricate oval boarder, a scalloped column front with cross-grain inlay on vertical high points comprises the front structure of these stunning boxes. Each box sits on ornate feet. The sides and back are beautifully figured mahogany. The top opens to reveal the original interior. All hardware is intact and original. For those with discriminating taste in early English antiques, these boxes would be stunning sitting atop a beautiful sideboard, or even flanking a majestic fireplace mantle.
