English Stoneware Pitcher

About the Item

English stoneware "barrel" pitcher, one side depicts an Irishman sitting with his pipe and favorite beverage, on the opposite side is a horse and jockey . The caption on the front reads "Captain R. Roberts 1904'' . There may no connection but there was a Irish sea captain Richard Roberts (1803-1841) who served in the Royal Navy and was lost at sea in 1841.
