About the Item

French Vintage Collection 12 Cristal Anis Clear Water Drink Bottles Pitchers France Glass Mid-20th Century Dimensions: H x W x D: 20cm x 7.5cm x 6.5cm This fine collection consists of 12 bottles labelled with the Cristal Anis logo. Cristal Anis is an anise-flavoured liqueur produced by the French brand Cristal Limiñana, founded by Spanish brothers in Algiers in 1884. The beverage has become a cultural symbol of the Mediterranean, where adding cold water to the clear spirit transforms it into a milky-white drink - a phenomenon known as the louche effect. In the 1960s, the brand relocated to Marseille, France, marking a shift in its advertising approach. The water pitchers in this collection were used as promotional items, provided to cafés and bars to advertise the brand. Serving water in a branded carafe was an integral part of café and bistro culture in Marseille and across the Mediterranean, where patrons would linger over their aperitifs. They would often use the water from these pitchers to accompany their Cristal Anis liqueur. Each bottle has a rectangular shape with a slender neck. The Cristal Anis logo is printed diagonally across the front in bold blue lettering, immediately drawing attention to the brand. Surrounding the logo, the textured glass adds visual interest to the otherwise simple design while also improving grip when pouring. Showcasing both beverage history and mid-20th century promotional design, this pitcher collection makes a superb addition to domestic interiors as well as restaurant and bar settings, adding a distinctive vintage touch to any décor.
