This elegant yet playful pitcher was designed by Sylvia Stave for CG Hallberg in Sweden in the 1930s. Its round body and unique combination of materials — silver-plated brass and rattan — make the piece particularly striking.
Sylvia Stave (1908–1994) was a Swedish silversmith and illustrator who was active until 1940. After exhibiting at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, she was appointed lead artist at Hallbergs Guldsmeds AB, a large jewellery firm with a factory in Stockholm.
After receiving international recognition for her designs of everyday objects, they were adopted by Hallbergs for production. In 1940, she married the French physician René Agid, moved to Paris, and stopped designing altogether. Many of her works are in the permanent collection of Stockholm's National Museum.
