The jug has a Z pattern border around the foot and is hand painted with floral and butterfly patterns around the body in colored enamels on ivory ground. The handle, upper rim, the embossed design and Z patterning around the foot are all painted in a satin brown color and highlighted with gilding which has also been used to outline the hand painted patterning to the body. The jug has a puce printed maker’s mark to the base along with a date code for 1882 and has puce printed retailers mark for Bailey Banks & Biddle. There are further painted marks and an impressed number to the rim. It is known that Christopher Dresser sold...
