About the Item

A fascinating and highly artistic example of late Victorian ceramics, this antique majolica pitcher is a masterpiece of the Aesthetic Movement. The piece is dated by its British Registry Number (R-N-113018) to the year 1888, making it a true historical artifact. Its design showcases the eclectic inspirations of the era, contrasting a vibrant turquoise upper body, adorned with a beautifully molded pink rose, against a rustic, dark-glazed lower half with a bark-like texture. A stylized yellow fish or sash wraps around the middle, hinting at the Japonisme influence popular at the time. This unique pitcher measures 7" wide, 5" deep, and 7.5" high. It is a perfect size to serve as a distinctive vase or to be displayed as a standalone piece of ceramic art, adding a touch of history and intellectual curiosity to any collection. It is presented in excellent antique condition, with the beautiful, fine crazing to the glaze that is characteristic of its age and adds to its authentic charm. A rare and wonderfully unusual find for the discerning collector.
