Wadeheath Art Deco Floral Painted Pottery Jug
About the Item
A very finely hand painted art deco pottery jug decorated with flowers by English pottery Wadeheath and dating from the 1930’s. The tall elegantly shaped jug stands on a wide round foot with a tall barrel shaped body with horizontal ribbing with a shaped strap work handle to one side and similarly styled pouring spout to the opposite side. The jug is hand painted with large floral blooms in typical loose art deco style in tones of bright orange, blue, green and yellow with black and silver highlights and set against a cream colored ground. Lustre orange glazes are applied to the handle and around the foot and top rim. This finely made jug very much epitomizes the style of the time and is very similar and probably inspired by the work of Clarice Cliff. The jug has printed makers marks to the base and is impressed 125.
