19th Century English Majolica Ocean Themed Asparagus Cradle with Attached Tray

About the Item

A scarce sea-side themed rustic English majolica asparagus cradle with an attached under tray, maker unknown, circa late 19th century. A ribboned bunch of asparagus makes up the pierced footed drainer, the under tray has a wave like pattern with a nautical rope border. The effect is a raft of ocean going asparagus. A large and weighty server. Book Reference: pg. 142 , “Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine” by Maryse Bottero 12 in. L x 9 in. W x 3.5 in. H Excellent antique condition, light glaze loss to the high points of the asparagus tips of the cradle.
