Copeland & Garrett Pottery neo-classical Greek Pattern blue dish, Centaurs Battling Theseus, 1833-47 The Spode Greek pattern pottery, shaped rectangular dish with cantered corners is printed in blue with neo-classical scenes on panels and urns against a fruit and flower ground. An oval central scene is printed with "Centaurs Battling Theseus" Mark: Printed in blue Copeland & Garrett around Late Spode and siliar impressed. Condition Good Dimensions: 16 1/2 inches x 13 inches x 1 1/2 inches The neo-classical “Greek” pattern, introduced in 1806, catered to the demand for classical subjects created by the Greek Revival style. The image is taken from Tischbein, Wilhelm. Collection of Engravings from Ancient Vases of Greek Workmanship Discovered in Sepluchres in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies now in the Possession of Sir William Hamilton. Three volumes from 1791.     An oversized Agatewear ewer or water pitcher, from the ‘Agate’ toiletwares line in the ‘Pompiean’ shape, Copeland and Garrett, Spode - circa 1840. Copeland and Garrett operated from 1833-1847 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Agateware vessels are made up of a white clay stained with metallic oxides to create a swirl of multi-colored clays. A large piece originally paired with a basin, molded with an applied handle, a flat-top crimped upper rim, and a footed base.
